National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, turned an on-stage slip into a moment of humour after he was mistakenly introduced as the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at a public event on Sunday. The error was immediately corrected, but Asiedu Nketiah chose to respond with humor during his address to the gathering, saying, “Let me gladly accept the honour conferred on me as the Acting National Chairman of the NPP by His Majesty, the representative of the King of Mamprusi. He is our grandfather, so I cannot reject the title that is conferred on me,” he said, drawing laughter from the audience. Continuing in jest, Asiedu Nketia added that the mislabelled title may not be far-fetched given the political circumstances. “It is fitting and proper because the NPP National Chairman comes from my place. We are brothers, but unfortunately, after their defeat, he’s gone into hiding. So if there’s somebody who should take care of things in his absence, I have accepted that responsibility.” He ended his remarks with a humorous offer to support his political opponents: “I’ll be acting until my brother comes. If the NPP needs advice, they should feel free to come to me.”
