Some suspended workers of Ghana Water Limited staged a protest at the Black Star Square on Wednesday, September 9, 2025, demanding their immediate reinstatement.Ghanaian Cultural Tours The workers, carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Mr. President, intervene, we are all Ghanaians,” “May Allah speak to your heart, Mr. MD,” and “Mr. MD and GWL Board, call us back to work,” urged both the company’s management and the government to address their concerns. “The workers also chanted patriotic songs to draw attention to their demands. Speaking to the press, Eugene Larbi, a former Management trainee at the Human Resources Management of GWL, said, “Today is a very sad day in our lives, we have been suspended without any reason. It’s been 8 months since our MD suspended us. We are here to plead with President John Dramani Mahama to intervene on our behalf. Things are getting worse. We have heard that they’re employing new people to take our roles. These few months have been very tough, especially for those of us with families; we have to pay school fees and all that. Since February, we have not received our salaries, and neither have we been called back.” In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Ghana Water Limited suspended all recruitments made in November 2024, following a directive from the Chief of Staff ordering the nullification of such appointments.Ghanaian Cultural Tours This decision aligns with an earlier instruction issued to all heads of government institutions to immediately annul recruitments made after December 7, 2024, citing non-compliance with good governance practices and principles. GWL specifically instructed that all recruits appointed in November 2024 and posted to various regions—but not yet added to the payroll as of January 2025—be suspended. The suspended workers insisted that the decision was unfair and called on management to reverse it. They argued that their suspension had negatively affected their livelihoods and those of their dependents. They vowed to continue the picket until their concerns are addressed by the company’s management and the relevant authorities. …..
