Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to prioritise the completion of the stalled Afari Military Hospital project in the Ashanti Region. Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, Dr. Boakye-Danquah expressed disappointment that the project, which was approved by Parliament in 2008, remains unfinished nearly 17 years later. “It is unthinkable that the Afari Hospital is taking almost 17 years. It has transcended a lot of parliamentary sittings. Because it was approved in the Parliament of 2008, we are now in the ninth Parliament. Life is progressive and not retrogressive,” he said. He stressed that completing the hospital is critical, given its intended role in providing advanced medical care to members of the Ghana Armed Forces who risk their lives to protect the nation. “I would ask the government of the day, ‘let us redeem the image of the country’. It is troubling when this news is carried into the international world. It is troubling that for 17 years we have not been able to complete a hospital that can take care of the persons who sacrifice to protect our sovereignty,” Dr. Boakye-Danquah added.
