The vetting of Justice Hafisata Amaleboba, President John Dramani Mahama’s nominee to the Supreme Court is currently underway in parliament. The session, being held in Parliament today June 18, is in line with constitutional requirements for the approval of nominees to the apex court. Justice Amaleboba, a respected member of the judiciary, is facing questions from Parliament’s Appointments Committee on a broad range of issues, including her legal philosophy, interpretation of the Constitution, and views on judicial independence and accountability. The Committee is also examining her past rulings, experience on the bench, and preparedness to contribute meaningfully to the work of the Supreme Court, should she be confirmed.
