Many Gaza students are unable to leave the Palestinian enclave despite securing places — and even scholarships — at foreign universities. El-Swirki was awarded a scholarship to study at Cambridge, but she now has no access to a UK embassy and could lose her spot due to visa issues. Both women describe life under Israeli bombardment, food scarcity and the collapse of infrastructure. Despite the devastation, they hope that studying abroad will enable them to contribute to the rebuilding of Gaza's future.
